Everyone Who Calls

Week 5
Romans 10:13 (NIV)  - for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

·         This weeks verse is short but oh so important. God is no respecter of persons! Jesus still stands on the steps of the Temple and cries "Whosoever will may come."
·         Let’s review our verses so far.  Can you finish these?
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death
Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His love toward us
Romans 10:9 – That if you confess with your mouth
Romans 10:13 – Every who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
·
     “Everyone who calls”
To call – to cry for help!  When we see the quicksand of sin that is pulling us into hell and realize that we are lost and without hope, blinded by the god of this world we have but to cry out like the blind beggar of old “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”  Jesus heard their plea and he asked them “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”  When they said Yes, Lord!  He told them, “According to your faith be it unto you.”

·         “the name of the Lord”
Proverbs 18:10 says “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous run into it and are safe”.  Jesus is the name above every other name.  There is no other name under Heaven by which we can be saved.  Stop what you are doing today and speak His lovely name.  Praise His glorious name.  Exalt His name in all the earth.  Set an alarm for every hour and take time to lift up the name of Jesus.  Whisper “Jesus”!  Cry “Jesus”!  Shout “Jesus”!  Call on “Jesus”!  It is in that name and no other that we are saved.

·         “the name of the Lord”  The Psalmist declares  “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!  Who hast set thy glory above the heavens.”   In the same chapter he asks the question, “What is man, that thou are mindful of him?  How marvelous!  How wonderful!  Just to know that the God of all Glory knows our name and even the number of hairs on our head.  He knows every sin, every failure, every time we stumble or go astray and still He came to die in our place.  O How He loves us!  How excellent is the name of the Lord!

·         “Will be saved”
No maybe there!  False religions offer a hope of eternal life based on living a “good enough” life.  Some even doom their believers to the uncertainty of working their way through levels of heaven and being reincarnated depending on the work they accomplish.  God’s Word makes it clear!  We are saved by the grace of God though faith in Jesus Christ, and that not of ourselves; it is the gift of God.  (Ephesians 2:8)  Everyone who calls … will be saved!  Now that is something to shout about.

·         The Scribes and the Pharisees (religious leaders) loved to take the Scripture and twist it to serve their purpose.  No matter how well intentioned when we fail to honor the Word as God has given it to us we dishonor God.  The real intent of the Word twister is to usurp power over the listener.  Don’t let anyone take away what God has clearly given to you.   It’s not about sounding smart or showing how much we know, it is about believing God’s Word for what it says – “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Romans 10:13 (KJV) That sounds a lot like Jesus on the steps of the Temple saying “If any man thirst let him come unto me and drink” and today we can join the chorus and say “whosoever surely meaneth me!”
