What He Sees
Matthew
9:22 (KJV) - But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said,
Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the
woman was made whole from that hour.
It is said
that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That must be true because I
have never figured out what Jesus sees in me. How could the God of
creation that spoke into existence the beauty of the expansive universe
and the wonders of the microscopic world find value in me? Who am I
that a king would take notice of me? Even more so that He would leave
His throne and change his physical form to become like me so that He
might take my place, paying the price for my transgressions. Isaiah
compares us to a newborn cast aside on the trash heap of humanity
nothing to offer, nothing to compel His love. Still, God turns to us
and sees something worth loving. He looks beyond all of our faults and
failures to see our need. He spoke to this woman “Daughter!” Oh the
joy that filled her soul! The Master was looking upon her with eyes of
compassion. Imagine the peace that swept over her that day. The bliss
of knowing that she was loved and accepted by Jesus. You are loved!
You are valued! Today, the eyes of the Lord are upon you! I will use
the words of an old song to conclude. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look
full in His wonderful face. And the things of this world will grow
strangely dim. In the light of His glory and grace.”
