I Am
Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I
am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold
you with My righteous right hand.'
After 40 years of
living in the Pharoah’s home and being groomed to be a Prince of Egypt
and 40 years living as an outcast on the “backside” of the desert
chasing sheep around in the heat I can imagine that Moses wondered why
he was even born. Why had God saved him from death and placed him in
the Kings palace? What was his purpose? At eighty years old his life
was slipping away and he was stuck in the middle of nowhere. Sure he
had a wife who loved him. A job that was supporting his family. He was
making a living but surely there was something more. It was in that
time of exile and dismay that Moses came face to face with the One that
holds our tomorrows and orders our lives. Nothing made any sense and
neither did His encounter with God. A Burning Bush? Really? Wouldn’t
God show up with an entourage or a flaming chariot? It is interesting
that it was from a bush that God decided to introduce himself and
proclaim His name. I Am! The self existent one. I Am here in this
burning bush. I Am here in the desert. I Am there when you are
discouraged. I Am with you always even until the end of the age. I Am
able to keep you. I Am more than enough. You may walk through the
wilderness and through the fire but I Am will never leave you.
It is natural to want to be successful and this world tries to fill
our minds with the worldly concept of success. We measure our lives by
the yardstick of Hollywood or Wall Street and it is easy to feel like we
don’t measure up but God never uses those temporal markers. God
doesn’t measure by 100 years or 1000 years. He dwells in eternity. It
would be good for us to remember that He laid the foundations of this
world and when everything around us has turned to dust God will just be
getting started. Nations rise and fall and kingdoms are but fleeting
moments in the light of eternity. Be not dismayed! That is hard when
you are in your wilderness and nothing makes any sense. But it comes
naturally when we gaze into the face of the Burning Bush and realize
that I Am is with you.
