Matthew 5:8 (KJV) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
I have often found myself laying on the ground crying out to God. Most often my prayer is “I want to know you.” “I want to see your glory.” “Teach me your ways.” I have heard these same prayers by many souls that gathered in our prayer meetings around the altars of the church. The heart that has tasted God’s love and grace can never be satisfied. Once we know God we must have more! This beatitude helps us to find the way to know Him more.
The pure in heart shall see God. Some would think that this is a reference to physically seeing God, perhaps when He calls us to Heaven but there is another meaning as well. Have you ever had someone explain a complicated equation to you but no matter how hard you tried you just couldn’t see it. We often say that when we comprehend a subject we see it, meaning that we understand it clearly. What if Jesus is telling us that to fully comprehend the depth of God we must purify our heart?
My eyes have never seen Jesus but my heart has seen Him time and time again. He reveals Himself to me in the depths of my spirit and I find understanding of the hidden things of God. It is with the heart man believes God and it is with the heart that we can know Him. We might say that the heart is the eye of the soul. Join me this week as we explore what a pure heart means and how we can find a greater vision of Jesus.

By My Spirit
John 6:63 (NKJV) - It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits
nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
I’ve heard many people say that they can’t understand the Bible. Let
me agree with them. I can’t understand it either. That might sound a
little worrisome from a Pastor and Teacher but reading the Word of God
and trying to process it with our natural or fleshly mind will leave us
half full. Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit…”
Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration
of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.” The NIV translates “given by
inspiration” as “God breathed”. The Word of God is more than just
letters on a page it is spirit and to receive the fullness of The Word
we must receive it through the Spirit. John begins his gospel “In the
beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Throughout Scripture God is telling us that to receive His best – the
fullness of His truth and love we must open our spirit to His. It is
only through the Holy Spirit that we are drawn to God. It is only
through the Holy Spirit that we can know God and it is only through the
Holy Spirit that we can understand His word. Reading the Bible without
first entertaining the Spirit will never lead us into the infinite
riches that God has prepared for those that seek Him. To mine the
depths of God’s heart we must be guided by His Spirit.
